TRADITIONAL
HOT HOT HOT - with hard surface floors literally taking over. . . floors made from slate, ceramic tile, chiseled stone, travertine, or any one of the a varieties of wood species, or floors made from bamboo – everybody is turning to area rugs for softening the edges.
Here are two more glamorous area rugs from the Candice Olson Collection. They couldn’t be more opposite from each other, but these two designs exemplify her diversity. If it’s an over the top POW you love or if it’s a classical understatement, one of these rugs has your name on it. Her collection includes unique designs and heavy, luxurious fibers. So, be brave enough to go beyond just warming up those cold floors – make them sizzle!

I loved the area rugs you have displayed here, especially the second one. the design is captivating. I don’t know much about rug themes. could you tell me what kinds of themes are used on area rugs? what are the distinctive features of contemporary rugs? I would like to learn more about them.

Good questions!
Anything and Everything is used as a “theme” for area rugs! What you are wanting to find is a rug that looks “CLEAN”. In other words, look for large geometric patterns – nothing fussy or busy – not a lot of curly-Q’s!
Heavily textured area rugs, in stead of heavily patterned is a good guide for that contemporary feel. Think minimalism. Think sparse. Remeber in a contemporary setting, less is more. Be dramatic but succinct. Another option for your consideration is a leather “shag” rug. Have fun!
