Grey and Yellow: New color buddies

Hi FRIDAY!

No reason, really, to say that.

I just think it sounds like fun!

As my readers know, if I had to scale it down to admitting only one obsession, I would cave at color.

Winter Freeze = Cozy Home

When the weather outside is frightful what do people do for themselves?

Spruce up the house!

YAY!

December’s extraordinary, fast paced days, and the glitz of Christmas are now tucked away in the memory bank.

It’s frigid January.  It’s only the beginning of winter. It’s time to complain about the weather. . . like we didn’t know it was coming.

It’s time to do something with our energy!

We look around the house and realize there is no better time to get creative. We want soups and stews and a cozy gathering place to be with each other.

We want to play board games, watch movies while munching on yummy flavors of popcorn, and a snazzy sectional for hosting a Super Bowl party.

We want our very own chair and a fantastic, long winded novel.

We want our home to be congenial, comfortable, and cozy.  Most of all we want to be HOME!

It’s no wonder that January and February are the busiest months in the home furnishing world!

Phelan’s!

We’ve got you covered.

Couch, Couch, SOFA

Know the difference?! Let me explain . . .

First of all, anything you see on the curb definitely qualifies as a COUCH!

streetcouch

Another qualification is a piece that takes on the personality of the Incredible Hulk. It’s too big, too muscular, awkward in most environments, and not necessarily green.

bigcouch See what I’m talking about?

Distinguishing characteristics of a COUCH can also include

(but are not limited to)

Ugly fabrics:

Stripes and plaids that don’t even come close to matching up, floral patterns that look like they’d be better served as a casket lining, anything  lavender.

I think I make my point.

?SOFA?

A SOFA is a piece made with care, preferably with American hands.

The construction tells a quality story.

The design is simple – whether it be contemporary or classic.

The proportions are designed  for human comfort.

 The tailoring is spot on.

Here are but 2 beautiful examples. Designed by Candice Olson and

made in the U.S.A.

Notice the contrasting welt (outline) on each of these pieces. I showed it just for grins. These sofas are available with matching welts but it doesn’t cost a penny more to add this contrasting design element!

I will include one more SOFA in this blog. It is the classic traditional sofa, who some would say is boring. I say, not necessarily so!

It’s simple in style, well constructed, beautifully tailored, and still maintains it’s 2009 attitude!
